This Thursday night head out to Star Bar for a chance to cool down, have a few beers, and preview some truly great tunes before another scorcher of a weekend. For the second week in a row, Beaumont's own Star Bar will play host to another traveling troop of touring yankees; this time our new friends, Bearings, hailing from Philadelphia, Penn. This Philly four-piece bears some striking similarities to the likes of bands like NOFX, Rancid, No Use For A Name, and Small Brown Bike. The band recently released their debut LP pressed on color vinyl with Runner Up Records in July of this year. "The LP consists of seven decidedly bummed out jams that sound a good deal like the No Idea bands that not so many people care about, like TRUE NORTH and SMALL BROWN BIKE." - Runner Up. If you're up for a tricky punk infusion of colorful chorus laden guitars, moody, driving bass lines, and harsh angst burdened vocals, then be sure to check these guys out on myspace and facebook before heading out to the show this Thursday night. True Womanhood

True Womanhood will pass through Beaumont's Star Bar at the midpoint of their tour in support of their new EP Basement Membranes.  Half of this record was recorded in thier hometown of Washington, D.C. by Environmental Aesthetics and the other half in Brooklyn by Death By Audio Records.  Its a tasty mix of tart avant-pop, sweet vocals, subtle melodies amidst droning guitars and percussions meant to shake your hips.  Listenability is high- though experiemental in nature the songs are (reletively) short and interesting throughout. No 8 minute acid trips here, more like a 4 minute ride on the magic carpet.  As far as direct comparisons go True Womanhood has been compared to 90s style explorers Sonic Youth and Radiohead, however, they feel more comfortable alongside their modern contemporaries such as Beach House or Slow Dive. Joining True Womanhood is Southeast Texas' own Hello Chief. The entire band has yet to graduate High School but they're sound and footprint are definitely working a double major.

MUSIC JUNKIE PRESENTS: BEST OF BEAUMONT @ EASYS

w/ Exploding Boy Toys, The Shammies, The Ramblin' Boys of Pleasure and The Amorist

I've had the pleasure of seeing three of these bands perform live last month and I couldn't be more excited about this particular line-up. With this many local favorites playing, how could this not be the place to be on a Thursday night? The show starts around 9:30pm at Easy's Tapas and Martinis and will surely be packed out, so get there a little early to secure a seat and be sure and tip your bartender.
