JEFF the Brotherhood returns to the StarBar! So the press loves them, big deal. The only thing that matters is - you will too. If you didn't make the preSXSW show in March the video above should give you an idea of what the fuss is about. The energy is inescapable, making a tight pack of 40 movers and shakers feel like the center of the pit at Woodstock. Jeff plays over 150 dates a year churning out catchy 3-string low-fi pop jewels. You won't feel like a stranger to these tunes, but every 3-4 minutes you may find yourself singing, humming or ingesting the wonderful after taste of their delicious melodies.
One of the bands that will be sharing the stage with JEFF is Purple. Making their live debut only 2 months ago at the now defunct "Hole in the Wall" this trio has the presence and sound of local veterans. One reason could be because Purple so happens to be the brainchild of one Taylor Busby, lead signer and guitar player for The Shammies. Every time they play the songs get tighter and most importantly better. How Taylor manages two bands with very different styles is a testiment to both talent and dedication. Oh wait, have I forgotten Purple does have two other members? Hanna Brewer has been dubbed the 2nd hottest blonde bass player in Southeast Texas behind our very own Jake Hookera>. At first sight one might wonder how such a little lady could wield such a large axe. Is this the novelty chick in the band? Nope. Looks aside, Hanna keeps her chunky rhythms very tight with drummer Tyler Tassin all the while harmonizing to guitar driven power-pop that makes their performance one not to miss.
Gonzo Sirens round out the bill with classic garage rock appeal. If you like Rock and Roll...its as if a brigade of the British invasion took a wrong turn into the bayou. After 50 years lost and brewing in the swamp its spawn has a risen. Embodied as the sounds of "Gonzo".
