I have often overheard people comment that I show preference to my friends’ bands. It's not that I eavesdrop, but when something is said enough, then you're gonna hear it...especially around this town. It is true that I have been friends with some people in the music scene a lot longer than others. The truth of the matter is these relationships do not effect my judgment in any way other than my being harder on my friends and their bands than others.

That being said, as I am unafraid to offend my friends The Shammies are currently my favorite band in Beaumont (and I'm sure many of my friends share this opinion),. That isn't to say that I don't consider Taylor, Kyle, and Travis friends, but in our case the music preceded the friendship. The untitled EP they were selling at The Amorist CD Release Party, which I am currently calling the Summer EP, has remained in rotation at Sunrise, usually being played at least twice a day. Truth be told, many bands in Beaumont have put out great albums over the last few months and I am completely ecstatic for the upcoming We Were Wolves/Cousin Phelpy vinyl release. What sets The Shammies EP apart in my opinion is the impeccable timing of its release. The six songs are summer personified. Fast-paced punk influenced surf jams share equal time with slowed down dub freak outs. Anyone who has been to a recent show featuring the band has witnessed a "Sandy Sheets" inspired sing-a-long. At this current moment all signs indicate that The Shammies will own the summer...at least until Kyle goes to work out of town. Before that happens, I suggest you take any and every opportunity to see The Shammies live.

Basically, buy, burn, or steal their CD as soon as possible. In the words of a good friend, the EP will lead to the "bettermentation" of your summer and your life.

[edit] The Shammies will be playing w/ Barely Blind celebrating the one year anniversary of My Life with a Giant's release at Star Bar June 2nd.

As you can see, he is a very fat and awful little puke. His face is the worst.
